Don’t Wanna Go To School Today

A poem inspired by my daughter, Karina, but dedicated to all of you who put so much effort into convincing grownups that a day or two off school won’t bring the world to an end. Let’s be realistic – they’re simply far too grown up to really understand that.

Don’t Wanna Go To School Today

(c) 2008 by Keir Wells

Don’t wanna go to school today, I’m feeling really crook,
When Mum comes in I’ll let her know and do a good old sook.

Don’t wanna go to school today, my homework’s not all done,
Maybe Dad’ll do the right thing and let me stay at home for fun.

Don’t wanna go to school today, both my parents really suck,
They smiled at me and said that I’m just down on all my luck.

Don’t wanna go to school today, we’re heading for door,
Mum’s got the car all started and it’s just about to pour.

Don’t wanna go to school today, it’s raining cats and dogs,
If mum would turn the car around I’d keep up with my jobs.

Don’t wanna go to school today, we’re pretty well just there,
I might throw up to prove a point and give my mum a scare.

I ended up at school today, it wasn’t all that bad,
And best of all, the news came ‘round, the teacher’s crook…how sad.
